Soil Rehabilitation Research at the Aleza Lake Research Forest: Techniques for restoring productivity to fine-textured soils
نویسندگان
چکیده
In the BC central interior, fine-textured glaciolacustrine sediments are an important soil parent material on many productive forest sites, particularly along major river valleys such as the Fraser and Nechako. With easy proximity to major transportation routes and wood processing facilities, many such sites were harvested early in the history of logging in this region, long before the advent of soil conservation policies in forestry. Part of the legacy of this early development is that substantial areas of productive growing sites have been converted to landings and other access structures on a scale which would not be consistent by Paul Sanborn , Chuck Bulmer , Dave Coopersmith, Angela Dale , & Dan Erikson

Extension Note 40
In British Columbia, soil rehabilitation aims to restore productivity to forest roads, landings, and trails that are no longer needed for access, and to areas that have suffered unavoidable or accidental damage as a result of forestry operations. Soil rehabilitation is an important component of management strategies to maintain or enhance timber supply in the working forest. Restoring productiv...

The highly dynamic, fine root component of forested wetland ecoi&g fine root dynamics is a challenging endeavor in any system, but the dilficulties are particularly evident in forested floodplains where frequent hydrologic fluctuations directly influence fine root dynamics. Fine root (53 mm) biomass, production, and turnover were estimated for three soils exhibiting different drainage patterns ...
متن کاملTree and Tundra Cover Anomalies in the Subarctic Forest-Tundra of Northwestern Canada
Factors that may account for subarctic vegetation patterns that are not reconcilable with synoptic climate were sought by reference to data on local climate, soils, parent materials, vegetation, and topography. Where the forest-tundra lies climatically northward, the vegetation transition zone is relatively narrow, and the soils are nutrient-rich, fine-textured loamy Cryosols derived from sedim...

Growth and productivity of plants are mainly affected by various environmentalfactors in different ecosystems and natural habitat in the world. This research aims to studythe existing relationships between the phytosociology characteristics of Thymuskotschyanus and environmental factors in order to find the most important factorsgoverning development of the species in middle Taleghan rangelands...
متن کاملLake-effect snow as the dominant control of mesic-forest distribution in Michigan, USA
1 Recent studies demonstrated the sensitivity of northern forest ecosystems to changes in the amount and duration of snow cover at annual to decadal time scales. However, the consequences of snowfall variability remain uncertain for ecological variables operating at longer time scales, especially the distributions of forest communities. 2 The Great Lakes region of North America offers a unique ...
